A team of 40 volunteers from The Jamaica National Group painted the multipurpose resource centre of the Jamaica Combined Cadet Force on Labour Day. The volunteers from the various member companies also planted shade and fruit trees to enhance the facility. The newly refurbished resource centre, recently renamed the Lt. Colonel Edgar Williams Fuller Building, in an unveiling ceremony in tribute to the Lt Colonel’s dedicated service to the Jamaica Combine Cadet Force, will serve as a space for training of the cadets. It will be equipped with computers and internet to assist the cadets with their educational work. Read more.
The Alpha Infant School in downtown Kingston also benefitted from a sprucing up by members of staff of the JN Fund Managers who took on the work at the institution as their Labour Day Project. They repainted the playground, pruned trees and donated a recycling station to the institution.
Over in St Thomas, members of the JN Sports and Social Club (JNSSC) and JN Foundation, with support from the Rotaract Club of Kingston, Rotaract Club of New Kingston and Kingston-based restaurant, Uncorked, made finishing touches to a new concrete dwelling for 64-year old Leith Hall resident, Beverly Mattison.
The volunteers painted the new home, which replaces the elderly woman’s previous board structure that had become unliveable. Work on the new home started over three years ago through donations sought and organised by president of JNSSC, Jamar Howell.
Ms Mattison, who could not contain her joy from those who journeyed to the east to assist in the beautification activities, will move into her new dwelling in June.
